This was the reality at 'Saushrutam 2024,' a groundbreaking seminar hosted by the All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA). A Glimpse into Saushrutam 2024
The second National Seminar, Saushrutam Shalya Sangoshti, organized by the Department of Shalya Tantra at AIIA, New Delhi, was a grand celebration of Ayurvedic surgical advancements. The event, which ran from July 13th to July 15th, 2024, was inaugurated by esteemed guests including Prof. Sandeep Kumar, Founder Director of AIIMS Bhopal, and Padamshri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, Founder Director of AIIA Delhi. The seminar brought together top minds in the field, such as Prof. Anurag Srivastav, Ex-HoD of surgical disciplines at AIIMS New Delhi, and Dr. M.C. Misra, former Director of AIIMS.
Live Surgical Demonstrations
One of the standout features of Saushrutam 2024 was the live demonstration of 25 complex surgical procedures over the first two days. This provided a unique educational opportunity for the 160 participants, including PG/Ph.D. scholars, resident doctors, surgeons, and faculty members from across India. Attendees observed surgeries for conditions such as Bhagandar (Fistula-in-ano), Arsha (Hemorrhoids), pilonidal sinus, gall bladder stones, and hernias, utilizing advanced techniques like Video-Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT), laparoscopy, laser surgery, and traditional Shalya methods.
Launch of Souvenir and Educational Material
AIIA Director, Prof. Tanuja Nesari, along with other dignitaries, launched a commemorative souvenir and IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials related to the Department of Shalya Tantra. Prof. Nesari emphasized AIIA's commitment to integrating Ayurveda with modern surgical technology, thereby empowering aspiring Ayurvedic surgeons with advanced skills and confidence.
Celebrating Sushruta's Legacy
The third day of the seminar began with the Sushruta Poojan ceremony, paying homage to the pioneering surgeon. This was followed by a paper presentation competition, showcasing innovative research and surgical techniques. The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony where prizes were awarded to the best presentations, and a heartfelt vote of thanks was extended to the dedicated Team Saushrutam.
